PLease answer these questions it is an English assignment

Human beings differ from chimpanzees in having complex, grammatical language. But language
does not spring fully formed from the brain; it must be learned from other language-speaking
human beings. This capacity to learn is written into the human brain by genes that open and
close a critical window during which learning takes place. One of these genes, FoxP2, has
recently been discovered on human chromosome 7 by Anthony Monaco and his colleagues at
the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford. Just having the FoxP2 gene, though,
is not enough. If a child is not exposed to a lot of spoken language during the critical learning
period, he or she will always struggle with speech.
---“What Makes You Who You Are,” Matt Ridley, Time Magazine
Each of the following contain unacceptable uses of quotations. Explain why each is incorrect
and then revise each so that it correctly uses a quotation.
1. Scientists are learning more about how people learn languages. “Human beings differ
from chimpanzees in having complex, grammatical language” (Ridley 60). 2. People might assume that individuals can acquire speaking abilities through hard
individual work, “but languages must be learned from other language-speaking human
beings” (Ridley 60). 3. Helping the language learning process “by genes that open and close a critical window
during which learning takes place” (Ridley 60). 4. In 2002, one gene important for language development “was recently discovered on
human chromosome 7 by Anthony Monaco and his colleagues” (Ridley 60). 5. Parents should continually read to and speak with young children, because if “children
are not exposed to a lot of spoken language during the critical learning period of
children, they will always struggle with speech” (Ridley 60). For a paper that argues how a person should choose a spouse, write a two-to-three-sentence
passage that includes your own words and a quotation from the following paragraph, from page
70 of “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” by Angela Razdan in Utne (May-June 2003).
Fast forward a couple hundred years to a 21st century America, and you see a modern
progressive society where people are free to choose their mates, for the most part, based on
love instead of social or economic gain. But for many people, a quiet voice from within
wonders: Are we really better off? Who hasn’t at some point in their life—at the end of an illfated relationship or midway through dinner with the third “date-from-hell” this month—longed
for a matchmaker to find the right partner? No hassles. No effort. No personal ads or blind
dates. For a paper arguing that biologists need more funding to speed up our understanding of the
earth’s living creatures before many more of them become extinct, quote from “Vanishing
Before Our Eyes” by Edward O. Wilson in Time (24 April 2000, page 29).
By repeated sampling, biologists estimate that as few as 10% of the different kinds of insects,
nematode worms, and fungi have been discovered. For bacteria and other microorganism, the
number could be well below 1%. Even the largest and most intensively studied organisms are
incompletely cataloged. Four species of mammals, for example, have recently been discovered
in the remote Annamite Mountains along the Vietnam-Laos border. One of them, the saola or
spindlehorn, is a large cowlike animal distinct enough to be classified in a genus of its own.
Earth, as far as life is concerned, is still a little-known planet.
